The average person likely knows very little about boxer dog adoption. Unless you’ve done it personally you probably don’t either. So you might be wondering what do you need to learn. Adopting a boxer can be a big step for your and your loved ones to take. Doing it with a casual attitude could cause you to make a poor choice. Their are a number of interesting ideas you’ll want to learn about before adopting a boxer dogs. What you’ll read in the following paragraphs will help you make this decision wisely.

Main Info

Before you consider Boxer dog adoption, there are a few things that you need to know about the breed. Firstly, Boxers are incredibly well built dogs and are considered to be medium to large dogs so they do need a lot of space. They are also incredibly lively and energetic so you will need to provide exercise on a daily basis, as well as have copious amounts of patience when it comes to training. Although Boxers do pick up instruction quite easily, by nature they are loving and excitable dogs so you may find that training becomes a little too much sometimes! Overall though, Boxer dog adoption is made easy by virtue of how friendly and loving the breed can be.

Will Your Home be Good for A Boxer Dog?

The great thing about Boxer dog adoption is that you do not really have to consider the other members of your household when choosing the breed. Why? Because Boxers are suitable for homes with children and other pets. They are so easy going that they will happily live alongside cats and small children with little effort, although they would have to be taught how to act around smaller children from day one to make sure that they do not get over-excited and cause an accident. However, if you have limited space or are elderly then Boxer dog adoption may not be for you. The former is largely because Boxers do need space and can get quite claustrophobic. If this is the case then they may become destructive. If you are older and are unable to handle your Boxer or provide daily exercise then again he or she may become bored and destructive as a result.

More Points to Think About

When you look into Boxer dog adoption, there are a few other factors that you need to consider, and the most important is where to adopt your Boxer from. You may want to go to a shelter and look for one that has been abandoned or you may want to go to an official breeder. The former will have checked out their dogs in advance and it can be incredibly fulfilling to provide an older dog with a home but Boxer dog adoption from breeders is not quite so simple. Always go to a reputable breeder and make sure that you can look at full medical records for your puppy. Similarly, make sure that your pup is being raised in a clean environment with a happy mom. If you have any reservations at all then just walk away. However, when you find a good breeder and have considered all of the above then you are ready to take the final step and choose Boxer dog adoption!

Are Dog Food Allergies Really a Problem?

I think I can appreciate why dog lovers go to a big box store or their local grocer and purchase a bag of cheap dog food. I understand that money is tight and some people need to save every penny they can. However, I wonder if they are really saving money buying a grocery / box store brand name.

It’s not a surprise to most people that companies are trying to stay profitable in these trying times and are cutting corners with the ingredients of their food to facilitate this. An example might be reducing the amount of quality meat in the dog food and replacing it with a less expensive alternative. They know that fillers like corn meal and wheat can make a dog feel just as full as a quality protein. To make sure they eat it, the companies will even add more fat to give it flavor so dogs are sure to gobble it up.

Some of the dogs will be able to eat this food and have no apparent side effects from the filler ingredients. They can devour the food every day and no one will even notice a problem. You’re probably wondering why I have an issue with this.

Perhaps we can view this from another angle, what if we ate junk food for the rest of the year? Would you feel any different after eating like this for a week or perhaps even two? This is similar to what we are providing our pets when we make them eat by-products and fillers. Some dogs seem not to have any issues eating these types of foods and really like them because of the additional fats. Wow, that sounds really tasty, doesn’t it?

Sometimes though, the dog allergy symptoms might take weeks to occur with your dog scratching at places where there wasn’t a problem earlier. Maybe this itching was caused by other issues like fleas and no one thinks of the food as a suspect. Eventually, the subtle scratching becomes worse and before you know it, a dog food allergy is in full effect.

By the time your dog is due for his next vet appointment, he may be scratching almost the entire day but you don’t comprehend why. While at the vet, your dog gets a steroid shot, but once it wears off the dog allergy symptoms return.

I’ll admit that I’ve painted a grim picture here, but I have seen it happen with my own eyes. Sometimes, that inexpensive bag of dog food can cause dog food allergies which, a month or two down the road, you may not relate to changing your pet’s food.

Dog ear mites are considered to be blood sucking parasites that live within the ear canals of your animal. Ear mites are a major health concern for animals. Not only are these mites a nuisance to your animal, they can also lead to deafness if they are not properly treated.

Dog ear mites are actually a common problem that many pet owners experience. Small animals generally obtain this condition because the mites have the ability to transfer themselves from one animal to another. The mites thrive by feeding off of an animals bodily fluids.

Typically, animals that do not receive proper hygienic care are prone to obtaining an ear mite infestation. The infection can cause redness, inflammation and even open wounds within your dogs ear canal. Crusty discharge may also be present in animals that are affected with a severe ear mite infestation.

If you believe that your dog has contracted ear mites, it is imperative to take them to your local vet. Aside from having your vet analyze their condition, you will also need to keep your dog away from other animals, because of the risk of the infestation spreading from one animal to the next.

There are a lot of medications available on the market to assist dog owners with clearing up their animals ear mite problem. Some of these treatment options include oral medications, as well as topical medications. A topical medication is a type of medication that will need to be applied directly onto the problem site.

You can also obtain treatment medications from your local retail providers. Most of the medications that you obtain from retailers are topical treatments, and they generally work on animals that do not have a severe ear mite condition. If your animals ear mite problem is severe, take them to a vet immediately, in order to receive proper treatment for the problem.

It is difficult to eliminate dog ear mites in your animal. However, with proper treatment dog ear mites can clear up within a months time. While you are treating your dogs ear mite problem, you will need to cease any interaction that they have with other animals, in order to avoid the problem from spreading.

You must also ensure that you follow the treatment regimen for the elimination of ear mites for the entire period specified. If you neglect to properly follow a treatment regimen for the condition, there is a chance that the mites will return.

If your dog is constantly digging and scratching at his ears, he may be suffering from dog ear mites. Prompt and aggressive ear mite treatment will provide relief from itching and open sores.

When Jim woke up that morning, it was with a ball being dropped on the floor beside his bed. If he didn’t get up soon, Sally his Golden Retriever, would start breathing heavily in his ear. Sally woke him up at 6:30 every morning (she had no concept of weekends) and expected to be let out. After a few minutes to do her business and get a drink of water, she would come back inside to be fed. This morning was no different and Jim spent a few extra minutes to admire her beautiful, thick coat. He was annoyed when he spotted a flea and figured she picked it up in the yard. The neighbor’s dog had fleas and every now and then, he would have to spray his yard to get rid of them. Sally was already on flea protection, so normally this was not a big issue. He promised Sally that he would take care of it that evening and left at 7:30 to be at work by 8.

At 5pm, Jim left the office and came home. He was rather surprised when Sally was not waiting by the front door as usual. He was sure she had figured out how to tell time. He called through the house but didn’t hear the click click of clawed feed across the tile floor.

Sally was found behind a table in the dining room. She whined as she chewed on a large area on her hip. As Jim bent over and tried to inspect the area, Sally growled at him. He jerked his hand back in shock as she had never growled at him before.

Jim once again tried to see the area and finally spotted a circular, red, inflamed area where she had chewed away her coat. It smelled bad and had a slimy film over it.

Sally was always happy and now seemed quite irritable. Jim pulled out his cell phone and called the vet. He had one more appointment available that night. Normally, Sally was out the door with the word “car”, this time he practically had to drag her.

When Jim arrived, a technician came out and weighed Sally and then went in the back to talk to the vet. Dr. Johnson came out minutes later to examine her. Jim was told that Sally had a dog hot spot which was likely caused by an allergic reaction. When Jim told him about seeing the flea in her coat that morning, Dr. Johnson said a flea allergy was a likely cause.

The vet used a shaver to remove the coat from the area and then cleaned it with an antiseptic. The vet administered a shot of steroids and told Jim she should feel better by tomorrow. Lastly, they placed a cone around her neck to keep her from chewing any more.

Within a few days, Sally was feeling better, and in two weeks Dr. Johnson took the collar off of her permanently. As Jim drove home with his best friend, he wondered how he could have kept this from happening.

There is an easy way to treat ear mites without having to take your pet to the veterinary office. Mites can cause a lot of damage to your pet’s ears if they are left untreated. Using mineral oil to destroy these mites is a simple process that you can do at home.

Swollen, reddened or inflamed ears are a sign that your cat or dog probably has them. These parasites will infect the middle ear causing your pet’s balance to be unstable. As a result, they may walk in circles continuously or may not be able to walk at all. Sometimes they will have a fever and will act lethargic. They also tend to scratch at their ears and shake their head a lot.

If your cat or dog is showing all these signs that next step is to look in their ear to confirm they have them. If you see black or grey spots inside the ear, they have mites. Mineral oil is the best treatment for getting rid of these parasites.

Mineral oil is good for your pet’s ears because it will loosen earwax and the blood and puss that have built up because of the parasites. This will clear the plugged ear and help them regain their balance. The oil also smothers mites. The easiest way to apply the mineral oil is with an eyedropper.

After applying the mineral oil, massage it in to help spread the oil to loosen the earwax and kill the parasites. Proceed massaging by gently grasping the ear with your thumb inside and your fingers on the outside. Apply pressure slightly to the inside, being careful not to scratch the ear with your nail or irritate the inner ear. Place the thumb down as far as it will naturally go and rub until the oil is spread all over the inside ear canal.

Once the oil has been thoroughly massaged into the ear, allow your cat or dog to shake it out. You may want to attempt this process outside so your furniture or carpet will not be stained with mineral oil and the blood and pus that were lodged inside. When you pet is done shaking out the oil you may still see deposits inside the ear. Wipe the excess away with a cotton ball; do not attempt to use a Q-tip as you may cause damage if you go too deep.

You can continue this process until you believe the ear mites are gone for good. If you notice after a week of treatments that they are not going away then you should contact your vet to take your dog or cat in for further treatments. The vet may end up giving you a prescription ointment to put in their ear. More than likely, a trip to the vet will not be necessary, as mineral oil is an excellent way to treat ear mites.

Demodectic Mange: What You Need To Know

Any pet lover doesn’t want to see his or her pet dog to undergo any form of suffering. And seeing a furry friend suffer from demodectic mange can be quite unbearable. This skin disease happens when mites behind it uncontrollably grow in number. In some cases, management may be needed, but there are times when no cure is required.

It may sound surprising, but did you know that most dogs already got demodex mites living in their skin? It’s likely that your furry friend already got some, but with only a few numbers. A puppy, right after birth, may already acquire these mites from their mom. If one puppy in a litter has it, it’s not unlikely that all the rest also got demodex mites.

Now the reason why these mites proliferate out of control and end up as demodectic mange is still unclear. You see, there are some dogs that may develop this skin disease, while the rest may not. When your dog develops this type of mange, chances are it will heal on its own. As your dog matures, so does its immune system. And it’s the immune system that significantly controls the multiplying of demodex mites.

It’s said that about 90 percent of infected dogs recover from it even without receiving any form of management. When a puppy suffers from it, in time the mange heals on its own. This is because of the puppy’s developing immunity system. As its body develops and strengthens, the multiplication of mites is controlled.

Demodectic mange can be categorized into two types: localized and generalized. The localized type is common in dogs aging below a year old. The most notable sign that an animal is suffering from it is small patches of hairloss. Such can be observed on the eyelids, ears and around the mouth. While the sign may also be observed in other areas of the body, it’s limited to small portions.

No treatment is done in the localized type. However, the pet owner may apply a medicated shampoo during bathing to help keep it under control. The veterinarian may prescribe some good-quality foods and nutritional supplements to enhance the dog’s immunity. This mange type vanishes on its own, usually around 8 months to 3 years of age. Depending on the dog’s breed, it’s usually during this time that the defense system of the body is fully developed.

The second one of this skin disease is the generalized kind. During onset, it may appear as though it’s simply the localized variant. But after some time, the patches of hairloss may spread to other parts of the body like the limb, tail and trunk. Other signs include skin inflammation and formation of scabs. For this, a lengthy management procedure may be given by the vet.

While some remedy may be administered by the vet orally, chemical dips may also be performed. But the latter do not come without some untoward effects, which can be quite terrifying to a pet owner. Some of the effects may include loss of appetite, vomiting, collapsing and others. However, after some time, the mange problem may recur. And the course of remedy will have to be repeated over and over again.

As demodectic mange can be passed on to offspring, neutering or spaying of a dog suffering from it may be recommended. Since the skin disease is linked to the immune system, it isn’t unlikely that your dog may pass it on to the puppies. This is also possible when the mange is already under control.

Find out how you can get rid of Demodectic Mange fast with the all natural mange cure you will find today! Information and details about how to treat and avoid mange are available for you now!

You may have heard some bad things about the Miniature Pinscher and if you didn’t know any better, you may have even believed them. Perhaps you were told that the dog barks too much and is bad with children. Maybe you heard they are too hyper. It’s possible you were even told they are miniature Dobermans. None of that is completely true.

In actuality, the Min Pin is fun loving, loyal and intelligent. He’s earned his nickname as the King of the Toys.

When you’re getting a Miniature Pinscher you’re definitely getting a dog with an attitude. He’s been called a big dog in a small dog’s body. Min Pins only weigh about 10 pounds, but act like they are much bigger. And they are full of pride, which you can witness by the way they step high and hold their head high when they walk. This is a proud breed.

Combine the pride with the Miniature Pinscher’s fierce loyalty to his owner and his tremendous courage, and you have a great watchdog. But in all fairness, they can also be a handful.

A good Min Pin owner quickly establishes himself as the alpha male or female. If this is not done, the dog can become a tyrant, thinking he’s in charge of the household. Early training is a must and it needs to be consistent. You can’t let your dog get away with bad behavior just because he’s so cute. It can be tough sometimes to enforce discipline because of this, but it needs to be done. The good news is that Miniature Pinschers are easy to train because they are highly intelligent.

And once he’s trained you will have everything you could want in a pet. Your Min Pin will be incredibly loyal and loving and simply a joy to be around. These dogs are real comedians and will leave you laughing every time you watch them play.

Remember we mentioned that the Miniature Pinscher is good with children. There’s a catch. Because the breed is very sturdy and of course playful, kids can have a tendency to play too rough. Min Pins aren’t fragile, but they are only 10 pounds. Children need to keep this in mind because as we said, they certainly act like they weigh more.

And there are very few breeds that would be considered more loyal than a Miniature Pinscher. He will quickly become attached to everyone in your family, although he does have a tendency to become very attached to one person in particular.

If you want a pet to entertain you, love you, be loyal to you, and just be fun to be around, the Miniature Pinscher would be a great choice. The breed remains very playful even into its old age. You may think you need a lot of energy to keep up with them, and to a certain extent that’s true. But they love to play by themselves with you watching. And while they do need exercise, because of their size they can get plenty of it just running around your home or apartment.

And when play time is over they’ll be happy to sit there right next to you. So if you want a family pet that’s loyal, fun, smart and easy to care for, the Miniature Pinscher may be just the breed you’re looking for.
