Your nice little puppy is full of happiness and is taking pleasure in exploring his new home and getting acquainted with his new family. There is one thing you can guarantee will happen though, your little pet will start to nip. It’s important to stop this early before it develops into a more serious problem so lets look at the best way to stop your dog play biting.

FROM BIRTH TO LEAVING THE LITTER

When they are still with the rest of the litter, puppies will use their mouths to communicate. Dog play biting is a normal type of puppy play in the pack. If a puppy bites another pup too hard, the puppy will yelp and this is how they learn when they’ve gone too far.

WHEN YOU BRING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Once you bring your puppy home and he joins his new ‘pack’, it’s up to you to make him realize that YOU are the leader of the pack. You should let out a high pitched shout if he bites you.

Turn around and don’t pay any attention to your dog instead of telling him off and shouting at him. Other ways of showing that you’re the leader of the pack are to ensure that you and your family eats before your dog.

When your puppy is still under 15 weeks old, you need to encourage licking as a good, friendly way of using their mouth. You should reward them once they cease biting and begin licking.

Rub something on your hand that your dog would like so they will lick it off! It is vital not to be too aggressive at this stage in the game since this will encourage aggressive behavior

As soon as your puppy becomes a little bit older, they will want to explore even more and they will also start teething. They bite you due to the fact that their mouth is sore. If this is the reason, you need to ensure your puppy has something to chew to soothe the pain of teething.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER WHEN TRAINING DOGS NOT TO BITE:

#1 Make it clear that you are the leader of the pack.

#2 Praise and reward high-quality behavior.

#3 Remember that the better way to end bad behavior is to ignore it and turn the other way. This is what the mother and other puppies do when your puppy was still with the litter.

Pets are a part of many of our lives, and the position they hold within our families is strong and mutual. Pets can be fiercely loyal and instances of the protection they have provided to their family members are legendary and have starred on the big and little screen. Animals can improve our health either through the physical exercise we get ensuring they get theirs, or through the mental stimulation we get interacting with them. Losing a pet is a tragic incident and for dogs, technology has provided us with the means to make that happen; the GPS dog collar.

As we grow ever closer to the little guy, he becomes totally bonded with the family, ignoring the assaults of our children and always sensing just when and who needs some love to make their day a little easier. This bond grows deep and there is no shortage of remarkable tales of our pets actually taking action that resulted in saving the lives of their owners. Despite these close relationships, we must abide by our community rules that usually require we keep our pet on a leash when we go for walks.

Because our best friend is a four legged creature, it is simply faster and more agile than we are, so when they decide to stay away from us, we have a great deal of difficulty catching them. Even normally well mannered dogs with great discipline can revert to their natural hunting nature when a scurrying wild creature catches their attention when out for a walk. Because of their acute sense of smell, many an owner has had a sudden loss of balance and stability as their pet launches into the brush after something we had not even noticed.

These outbursts of speed and strength are uncomfortable while walking on a park path, though they remind us of how string our pet has become. When walking near the water however, they can take a more complicated turn if the dog suddenly decides there is something in the water he just has to have. Unless you a prepared fro such an event, you might find yourself taking an unpredicted swim, or having a very wet dog to take home and dry off.

These are minor annoyances for most of us who are just happy to see our dog enjoying the outdoors and staying active and healthy, which means they will stay around with us for longer. While dogs are intensely loyal and want nothing more than keeping the master happy and returning to its home, when out at play, they turn on all their instincts. If they can get free of the collar and leash, they certainly will, and all the efforts to catch them are recognized as little more than play time.

It is this natural yearning for the outdoors that causes owners the most difficulty. It is not an indication that our pet wants to leave us, only that it desires to explore the outdoors with its many scents and creatures and other dogs, for that matter. There is nothing quite like that sudden realization that he has found a way to escape the confines of the backyard, despite the fact the fence has been up to the task until now.

We all have busy lives with children attending school and the grownups working all day, Fido usually has to stay in the back yard entertaining himself until we all return. At one time or another it is not uncommon for him to find something that really attracts his attention that is beyond the fence. Having all day with nothing to do but focus on that desire, dogs frequently find new ways to escape from their homes, even if they have not done it before.

It is this concern for his well being, in addition to the genuine loss we feel for his absence that drives the considerable effort to locate him that we now pursue. Posting lost dog pictures everywhere we can think of and the trolling the neighborhood in the car and on foot in a desperate attempt to bring him home can be traumatic, especially for children. This whole concern can be easily prevented by getting a GPS dog collar for our best friend, then if he gets free and takes off on an adventure, we can track him down rather easily.

Having plenty of pet grooming supplies is so important to keep up with your dog’s appearance. The physical care such as the nails and hair is a very basic need for your pet. So if you are a pet owner there are certainly some grooming supplies you will need to maintain your dogs grooming needs.

When you decide on choosing some general supplies for your dog, do not forget to include grooming equipment. There are some basic things that you can choose when it comes to grooming supplies for your pet.

One of the first things you will want to buy is combs and brushes. Dogs do not have the same hair style. There are several types of brushes and combs to choose from. Select the ones which will suit your dog’s needs. The bristle brush works very well for many types of hair styles and these brushes vary from soft to firm and also there are brushes that are short and long.

The wire pin brushes seem to be the best for dogs with hair that is medium or long. Slicker brushes may be used if you need to break up the tangles and the mats in the medium to long haired dogs. The racks and mat breakers do work very well for more severe tangles and mats.

Shedding tools are great as they have special teeth that can easily remove excess hair from any double coated dogs. This type of brush also can be quite helpful for reducing shedding from your pet. Alternatives to this kind of brush are shedding blades or furminators. You should also get your dog a flea comb to help reduce the constant scratching caused by fleas, if any.

Trimming your dog’s nails is very important as this process is quite stressful on the dog as well as on the owner too. Having some common knowledge with respect to proper methods of nail trimming along with the right tools can reduce a lot of the stress that goes along with this process. Claw trimmers that are spring loaded will easily cut the nails much like a pair of scissors. Then there are guillotine nail trimmers which have replaceable blades and can cut the dogs nails when the spring loaded handle has been depressed.

There are also scissor like trimmers which do not have springs and work best for dogs that have small and very delicate nails. You should also provide for styptic powder, should there be any bleeding from cutting the nails too short. You can grind down the dog’s nails with the use of a filing tool which will leave the nails with a much more smoother edge.

Also shampoos will be very important for your dog’s care. Always use shampoos that do not contain soap. Another very important matter for good dog care is ear cleaning. Use the proper ear care for your dog so they will not be bothered by lice or any infections. Every dog owner who wished to keep their pet looking healthy, with a wonderful appearance will certainly need to have plenty of quality pet grooming supplies.

What To Know While Adopting A Puppy?

It is a well understood fact that adopting a puppy is a very complex task, not because you need to find a puppy that is quite adorable and becomes a part of the family, but because of the fact that adopting a puppy would require you to adjust your way of living according to the needs of your puppy.

Catering to your new puppy’s needs would require you to implement some changes in your lifestyle. Since the puppy has just suffered a separation from everything that he knows till now, it would be required from you to spend some time close to him and provide him with love, care and affection.

When you adopt a puppy you will need to be willing to devote at least some time in these initial stages to housetraining him. Or if you don’t have the time to do this, you need to be willing to at least send your puppy to the canine version of kindergarten. Before you do any of these things though you should have an idea of what your cute looking puppy is going to look like as a fully grown adult dog.

At this you might be thinking that it doesn’t matter what the dog looks like later on in life? Well you may get into some serious trouble for thinking like this because of the fact that every dog has a certain temperament. Some puppies might attach themselves to a single person while others may like getting attention from everyone.

Still some dogs may have a choosy nature when it comes to food while others may eat everything put in front of them, even things that you would never think of placing in front of them. Adopting a puppy means bringing an animal into your life. It also means that the animal is going to be fully dependent on you. But this may not stop your cute puppy changing into a full grown dog with a mindset of its own.

Therefore the first thing to do before adopting a puppy is giving a thought to what the puppy would look like in the future. This would help you to determine the amount of space needed by the dog whether it’s indoors or outdoors. Also it is necessary to find out if your puppy is happier doing an outdoor task likewise in the case of Alsatians or Dobermans. These dogs are quite large in size and generally suited to protecting your home and property.

After you gain an idea regarding the temperament of a puppy, it is advised to find out the amount of money you can spend on your puppy’s basic needs such as food, toys, veterinary trips, discipline and medicine. The physical, mental and emotional health of your puppy is dependent on these items. Of course thinking about all these things should not prove to be a hindrance for your desire to get a puppy as a companion.

You should however be prepared for how much your life will change when you adopt a puppy. This cute bundle of mischief has the ability of bringing joy and laughter into your life.

Raising an untrained adult dog could be a real pain. We get really annoyed by uncontrollable ways when we get adult dogs or fail to train our dogs as puppies. Several years back, I’d a particular female Alsatian, Lucky. She was my very first dog, so I didn’t try to train her like a puppy. Some day, I left the back door of my apartment open and went to work.

Before I came back that night, Lucky and her puppies had damaged all the seats at the living room using their teeth. I got so upset that I started throwing things at them. That’s one very regretful memory for me because I woke up the following day to understand that an individual pup had missing his left eye. I most likely threw some thing that strikes him on the left eye.

Besides this experience, I’ve constantly encountered other people who had horrible experiences with their dogs. Some dogs litter the house with poop although some other dogs could always succeed in biting your most significant visitors. Occasionally, puppies are accidentally run over when backing out or driving into the house.

Lots of people just stop keeping dogs to finish this horror. In sharp contrast, well trained dogs often leave very enjoyable memories in the mind of their owner or guardian long after they’re gone.

It is very crucial that you train your dog so that you can raise a healthy, well-adjusted dog and keep your home safe. Most people (especially if we are having a dog initially) neglect ‘house dog training’. The aftermath is usually more painful than we anticipate. Though teaching new tricks to old dogs may seem to require a bit more effort from you and your dog, adult dogs can still be properly house trained and you’re simply in the best situation to do this training. Actually, training an adult dog can feel really difficult, specifically simply because they can’t talk and you can only guess what is on their head.

The Citronella Dog Collar

The Dog Collar by Citronella has helped me and many others in a lot of ways. I have used this collar for a long time now, probably going on over 2 years and have recommended it to everyone I know based on the success I have had. I know a lot of people that use this device to help with their animals since it is a great humane way to discipline their dogs from barking all the time.

People have also used shock collars to try and discipline their dogs too. This method has not worked as well to do the job. A lot of the times it will only make the barking worse. The Citronella Collar makes sure to discipline in a humane way that owners don’t feel bad using the product. I don’t recommend using the shock collar; I think it is cruel and inhumane.

The Collar sprays Citronella in your dogs face when it barks to control the barking. The way that this works is wonderful in the sense that it does not damage the dog in any way. The discipline that your dog will receive from this is priceless compared to what you will get in return. This collar is like a master around your dogs neck at all times.

Nuisance barking has been a problem since people starting have dogs as pets. I have had neighbors that had animals that barked constantly. This becomes very annoying at times when you are trying to enjoy sometime outside in your yard. I offered the idea of the Citronella Dog Collar to my neighbor and he loved the idea. He was sorry that his dog barked all the time and was willing to help correct it.

When I am not at home, I make sure to put the Citronella Bark Collar on my dog. This makes me feel as though I have nothing to worry about. It’s like having a chaperone at my house at all times. I do not like it when my neighbors allow their dogs to bark, so I make sure to extend the same courtesy back. The collar has done its job well indeed.

David Maslow has been writing about the citronella bark collars for a while now, he also writes about the staywell dog door. Check out his sites: Citronella Bark Collar and Staywell Dog Door.

Despite their reputation as hunting and retrieval dogs, Labs get along well with dogs and other animals. Because Labrador Retrievers are trusting and friendly, they generally are not utilized as guard dogs. They are widely used as rescue and helper dogs, however.

Description: The Labrador Retriever is a sturdily built, medium to large sized dog used primarily for hunting and as a companion. The dog is strongly muscled with a powerful jaw, but is renowned for its delicacy in carrying objects in its mouth.

The male dog should be between 22 ” to 24 ” at the withers, with the bitch an inch less in both measurements. A top weight for the dog would be 80 pounds, and 70 pounds for the female. History: Settlers on the isle of Newfoundland, Canada, are responsible for helping to develop the Labrador breed. The progenitor of the Labrador Retriever was the St. John’s Water Dog, which also gave rise to the Newfoundland.

Grooming Your Dog Properly

Good pet health is closely related to grooming. When well taken care of, animals do feel great. The best dog grooming is usually defined by factors like budget, dog size, dog personality and breed. Moreover, nail cutting, hair combing and ear cleaning have to become part of the grooming routine performed regularly.

The best dog grooming is normally achieved by following a vet’s suggestions. Some people prefer doing it a home while others feel it more comfortable to use a professional groomer.

Brushing is the grooming part that most dogs enjoy, and a shiny clean coat is the right premise for good health. The brushes have to be adjusted to the dog’s hair. Thus, in order to prevent the tangling and matting of the hair, dogs with long thick hair should be brushed daily. The rest of the grooming is a lot easier if the pet’s fur is kept in a good condition by daily brushing. Medium-haired dogs need weekly brushing only, while short-haired breeds raise almost no problems in terms of brushing. We ought to emphasize the importance of good brushing during the shedding season.

While brushing is a joy, nail trimming is a nightmare. The gentlest of dogs will not like you handling his paws, which makes nail trimming challenging for most pet owners. Finding the best dog grooming for the matter means avoiding the pet’s fear of pain, since this will make things a lot easier. A professional groomer or vet technician should be entrusted with nail trimming at least once a month, and you may also learn a thing or two from them.

Bathing brings other tough moments for pets and owners. Some dogs love washing, but what about a wet dog running out of the tub and making a mess everywhere in the house? Although a monthly bath is enough, there is no harm in bathing them weekly particularly if you have a professional groomer handle the entire operation. Other than smell, bathing makes the perfect solution for hair parasites. Special shampoos are used depending on the case, and occasionally, the vet may have to give some recommendations too.
