Dog Potty Training
If your dog is already an adult then it will be hard to let him undergo dog potty training. The suggested time to do dog potty training is when your dog is still a very young puppy -8 months old to be exact. Adult dogs cannot learn new things so it would be better for dog owners to start their dogs early when it comes to being housebroken.
Dog potty training rule no.1 is the 15 minute break. Once your dog eats, you as the owner have to wait a mere 15 minutes for your dog to produce poop or pee or both if he had solid and liquid intake. This takes a lot of patience yes, but it is necessary to save you from cleaning poop all the time.
Training rule number 2 is for you and your pup to go out in your backyard early in the morning or as soon as the both of you are awake already. Do this after he finishes his first meal as well. Dogs, especially puppies, love taking naps. Be sure that when your puppy wakes up from his nap that you take him out for a walk in your backyard. If you love giving your pup lots of snacks, wait for 15 minutes for him to digest it and then go out for a walk with your dog again so he could do his pooping in the yard or wherever you want him to.
Rule number 3 is to cheer your puppy when he finally produces poop. Do this when he poops in the right place, your happy voice will let your dog know that you are happy in seeing him do this. Once your dog sees you are happy, he will do it over and over and over again.
Rule 4 is to let your dog eat when you have the time to take a walk. When it comes to water intake for your doggie, control his water intake when he is still untrained but be sure to have a lot of time in your hands because dogs need to be hydrated too.
If your dog is still not potty trained this becomes a big problem during summertime because dogs need to drink lots of water to keep their body at the right temperature. You can save cleaning time by having your dog learn how to tap on something or maybe ring a bell when he needs to pee. What needs to be done in this case is before you bring your dog to his peeing area, make him ring a bell. Do it every time you two go out so that he will make it into a routine. This will greatly help you get a tip off that your dog is about to go.
The fifth rule and the hardest one is to quietly clean up your dog’s poop or pee when he or she did the business in a “prohibited” area. Ignore your dog. Do not punish your dog or yell at your dog because he or she will not be able to understand that you are frustrated. In fact, your dog will only be amused and slightly confused in the process.
The 6th rule is when your dog is about the house, keep him or her with you at all times. This trick will save you a lot of cleaning time. Remember as well that you are forming a bond with your dog as you teach him or her so do it in a loving way as much as possible. Good luck!
