Types Of Fashionable Dog Carriers

For dog owners of dogs of small and toy dog breeds who like to care their dogs with them, fashionable dog carriers are a fun and practical accessory. Dog carriers that owners tote with them would not be suitable for medium sized-dogs or larger. Fashionable dog carriers come in trendy styles or classic designs.

Fashionable dog carriers come in two basic forms, pet bags and shaped dog carriers. Pet bags resemble large purses, tote bags, or diaper bags. Formed or shaped dog carriers have a stiff construction that resembles a smaller version of a small pet carrier that would typically be used for practical purposes like transportation by airplane.

Dog carriers that are made to be trendy come in fun colors and unique fabrics. Trendy dog carriers often use faux fur, shimmering or bright fabrics, or even plastic in the design.

Though many stores may have limited selections, the Internet provides a much broader selection. A dog owner looking for a trendy dog carrier can perform a search on a search engine to find retailers.

Well-known designers also make fashionable dog carriers. These dog carriers often look very different from the trendy styles since designer dog carriers use plain colors or muted patterns. Their designs are often simple and functional.

Dog owners wanting a designer dog carrier should be prepared to pay a significant amount of money for it. Gucci dog carriers range from approximately nine hundred dollars to over twenty-five hundred dollars. The pet bag model can be significantly less expensive than the shaped dog carriers.

Both dog bags and formed dog carriers often have a rigid bottom on which the dog can stand. Fashionable dog carriers have mesh windows to allow for proper air circulation.

A unique alternative to pet carriers is the pet stroller. Pet strollers may allow dog owners of slightly larger dogs to take the dogs in and out of stores and on their various errands. People dont seem to mind the dog in the stroller in public places, even restaurants.

Crate Training Dogs

One of the most common ways to train dogs is called crate training. “Crates” are usually made from plastic or steel wire and come in different sizes. Crate training is considered to be one of the best forms of dog training.

The main reason that crate training is so effective is that dogs hate to pee where they sleep. Abiding by this principal, they learn to hold their urges to urinate until they are outside. Little by little the dog learns that outside is the place to pee.

While a dog is going through crate training, it will spend almost all of it’s time inside its crate (den). It should in fact be inside the crate all times that it is not being supervised. After letting the puppy/dog free from the crate it should be taken outside immediately so that it has the opportunity to pee.

When choosing a crate make sure its large enough so that your dog can move comfortably inside. A crate that is 1.5 times your dog’s length and has a few inches of head room when your dog’s in the standing position is about right. If the crate is too long the puppy may use the addition area to pee in. In the case that your crate is too big for you dog, block off one end of the crate to make it smaller. Plastic crates with wire doors are the easiest to clean and transport so we recommend getting one of these where possible.

Crate training is most successful when the puppy’s toilet breaks are at consistent and frequent intervals. This minimises the chance of urination. As the puppy gets older you can start to lengthen the time between breaks as they will begin to build up their resistance to go to the toilet.

You should endeavour to set the crate up as a welcoming and nice place for your puppy to be. Putting your puppy’s toys inside the crate and lining the crate with a blanket will help with this. Feed the dog close to the crate, and give your puppy rewards for good behaviour inside the crate. Doing these small things will help build up your dog’s positive image of the crate.

Crates should not be used as a prison or place of punishment as this will not aid in the dogs training. Avoid closing the crate when the dog’s owner is not home and don’t leave your dog in the crate for too long as they may start to feel anxious and afraid.

Crate training is in most cases beneficial for both the dog and its owner. Some experts argue however that crate training can lead to psychological problems because the dog becomes so attached to the crate after passing so much time alone inside it.

When a dog gets older they have a tendency to form arthritis. Arthritis occurs when you have inflammation of the joints. Some of the things that can cause this problem are earlier injuries such as torn ligaments. You will know if your dog has arthritis as they have trouble getting up from lying down, are not as willing to jump or even go for walks.

Here are some ways in which you can manage your dogs arthritis:

Controlling their weight:- As the owner you have control over what you feed your dog. Good quality food appropriate for your dog’s size, breed and activity level and keep treats to a minimum. If you have doubts on what you feed your dog contact your veterinarian.

Exercise: Make sure that your dog does get regular exercise in shorter sessions this is always better than long work-outs on weekends. Warming the muscles prior to exercise and following exercise with a “warm-down” period are beneficial. Daily exercise will ensure that they maintain their correct weight.

By exercising it provides a good range of motion to the joints which in turn will limit the wear and tear on the joints. Exercises such as leashed walks, swimming or slow jogging are ideal for your dog. The programs should be catered to your dog and its needs depending on the severity of the arthritis, his weight, age, and physical condition.

Bedding: Damp and cold weather will aggravate the arthritis so keep your dog warm by providing them with a pet sweater and ensuring where they are sleeping is kept warm. There are a variety of dog beds that can help such as beds with dome-shaped, orthopedic foam distribute weight evenly and reduce pressure on joints. These help the dog by making it easier to get in and out.

Massaging: Massage your dog to help relax the muscles and provide a range of motion to the joints. Begin slowly as your dog will be in pain. Start gently kneading the muscles around the joint with your fingertips using small, circular motions. Gradually work your way out to the surrounding muscles.

Every Day: Climbing stair becomes difficult for dogs with arthritis. Dog owners will tend to build or buy ramps, especially on stairs leading to their yard, to make it easier for their dogs to go outside.

Don’t let your beloved dog suffer from arthritis there are many things that you can do as a caring owner to help them manage their pain

Buying a puppy can be likened to buying a used car. When the cars history is not known, smart shoppers demand a Car Fax report. Whether you are buying a used car or a puppy, the less educated you are, the more likely you will have expensive problems. The only way you will know for certain how a puppys mother was cared for; before, during, and post litter is to know the Breeder. Alas, buying direct from a Breeder is no guarantee that your puppy will be healthy! Breeders are often as ignorant of how to properly feed and supplement, as is the majority of MDs and Veterinarians in this country.

Pet Store and Rescue Facility puppies are a high risk to develop weak immune systems. The greater the risk, the greater the probability they will require advanced vet care throughout their lives. Why? Most of the animals sold in rescue facilities were either abandoned, or from feral (wild) mothers. Feral females are often impregnated before they are physically mature, and often become pregnant again, while puppies (or kittens) are still on the teat! Feral mothers survive by scavenging for food. Scavenged food is likely to harbor pathogenic bacteria. At best, this bacterium causes mild diarrhea, however, more likely it will cause chronic diarrhea, which leads to dehydration and fever, quickly followed by more advanced digestive and immune diseases, which compromises the milk.

The unquenchable appetite of Empty Nesters to buy puppies for companionship has resulted in an out-of-control business known as Puppy Mills. They are Big Business, and as such are run like businesses whose prime interest is stock-holder profits. The living conditions in puppy mills has been documented, but nothing has been done to legislate and monitor their facilities. Breed dogs are often treated like feed animals. Instead of getting proper nutrition and supplements to keep them strong, so they can produce and nurse healthy pups, they are fed lowest quality food and shot full of medications when they are sick, which is most of the time. They are highly stressful environments.

Every aspect of a Puppy Mill is stressful; living conditions, food, sickness, and premature weaning. This is followed by, how pups are handled when shipped to pet stores all over the country. They are stacked in cages, given little food or water, no light, extreme weather conditions, lying in the own urine and feces for days, listening to other pups crying in fear. Once they arrive at the pet store, they are exposed to a whole new set of stresses. If they adjust the stress begins again when you take them home.

All the stress results in diarrhea. Puppies are usually stabilized with antibiotics before they are put on display in the store. But the excitement of meeting you and your family is more enough to cause diarrhea. No need to panic. The last thing they need is more antibiotics or steroids. You can quickly and safely quell diarrhea by administering a few doses of soil-based probiotic organisms (SBOs). SBOs are the organisms that animals eat when when the pull at grass. They instinctively know SBOS are beneficial for their digestive system.

One of the most popluar searches on the internet is What is The Best Food to Feed a Puppy? Hint, you will not find it on most pet food isles, unless you are shopping in a holistic pet store, and even then Buyer Beware! Raising a healthy pup becomes easy when you understand that 90% of your puppys total immune system is located in their digestive system, and that 80% of all chronic disease is caused by an unhealthy digestive system. The food that is natural to your pups ancestory is human-grade animal protein, however, this protein is difficult to digest and assimilate. Additional nutrients are necessary.

Your puppy is a meat eater. By feeding your puppy human-grade animal protein, and a few critical supplements, you will have the healthiest, happiest dog imaginable. Also, its life will be extended by an average of 7 years. You can search for testimonials of people who have switched to this diet.

Hopefully, this article is a wake-up call. Owning a puppy is a huge responsibility that should not be taken lightly. All one has to do is look around at the millions of sick pets and ask “What do they have in common?” The answer is manufactured dog food, and a lack of digestive aids needed to break food down into absorbable elements. The knowledge you need to make sure your puppy grows up to be healthy and happy, as well as live a full life is very simple.

It is known that for over 200 years, small breeds of terriers roamed the Isle of Skye in the hilly regions of Scotland. It is there that the breeds such as the White Highland Terrier and Skye Terrier developed to become the world famous pets that they are today. The present type of the Cairn Terrier has actually developed from the two aforementioned breeds and that the Cairn was the last of the Scottish Highlands terriers to have been registered in the kennel clubs.

In its native land Scotland, the Cairn terrier is considered as one of the oldest working dogs. During its development in this country, it was made to hunt and catch rats, rodents and other small game. It also digs out and burrows under huge rock piles called cairn and this is where the Cairn terrier was named after.

This little breed, with its dense coat and smart looking eyes, appears adorably shaggy and vigilant. According to the breed standard, the Cairn terrier should stand between 10 to 13 inches in height and should weigh between 14 to 18 pounds. Due to some irresponsible breeding, however, there are several Cairns that weigh and stand more than the breed standards would allow.

The coat of this breed appears dense and shaggy on the outside and soft and tamed underneath. This coat protects the dog from harsh weather and other rough objects and it often comes out in colors of red, wheaten, gray and cream. Some coat colors also appear in brindles of black, white, and black and tan.

Interestingly, the coat color of a Cairn can never really be predicted during its early stages because the coat colors tend to change infinitely over the whole span of the dogs life. There are coat colors that become lighter while there are some colors that become darker, some even to a point of being pure black. If there is a pure white-colored Cairn, the American Kennel Club lists this type as a West Highland White terrier.

Most Cairns today are considered as house pets but even so, the natural hunting instinct in them still comes out often. Often, these dogs run all over the house in a frantic chase of rats and other vermin. Sometimes, they vigorously dig dirt outside of the house in search of real or imaginary game.

The Cairn terrier has a superb intelligence that is why it can be trained to do tasks and commands. However, this breed is also known to have an independent and stubborn spirit that’s why trainings may take a while before fully accomplished. Take note, however, that even though the Cairn has a mischievous side to it, positive and gentle reinforcements should only be done in order to avoid hurting the feelings of this tiny lovable creature.

Nowadays, the Cairn terriers are seen living in apartments or big houses as a household pet more than a working dog. This breed also goes well with children that’s why many families like to take them in. Grooming the Cairn also takes little work as it only needs hand stripping in order to keep its hair in a clean and shaggy style.

Mastiffs: The Breed For You?

Raising a mastiff is much the same as caring for any other breed of dog. You should take care to begin training your mastiff puppy as soon as you can, as well as develop a good exercise routine. Mastiff training can be a bit difficult if you aren’t persistent. Your mastiff will need a good diet and regular grooming to ensure he remains in good health. Be aware when taking in a mastiff that they have a tendency to want to lie around with very little desire to exercise. You will need to have a determined attitude toward exercising your mastiff.

It is recommended to walk your mastiff on a daily basis and approximately twice a day to maintain your mastiff’s health and happiness. If you have a back yard then it is ok to walk your mastiff once a day as they can walk around the yard. But if you live in an apartment it is recommended to walk your dog at least twice a day so that they can get a regular exercise.

Mastiffs are big dogs and require a regular diet of quality dog food to maintain good health. Mastiff puppies should be fed roughly four times a day after they’ve been weaned onto puppy food. As your mastiff grows, you can gradually reduce the amount of times you feed him to once or twice a day. There is usually a guideline somewhere on the dog food package that estimates how much you should feed your dog based off of a weight scale.

The grooming process for a mastiff is pretty simple as they are short haired dogs that do not require a lot of grooming time. As they are also natural hair shredders it makes the process a lot easier as the hair is already loose. Like any other dogs, mastiffs have natural oils in their skin that helps them look after their fur. Thanks to these oils you will only need to bath your mastiff a couple of times a year.

Mastiffs are a very gentle breed that, if looked after in the proper manner, will be a very important part of your family life. These dogs are great with children but also great as guard dogs as they will protect the house where the family lives whilst the dog is there. There are several different variations of the mastiff breed, including bull mastiffs, English mastiffs, and American mastiffs. If you decide to have a mastiff as a companion and you look after him properly, you will have a friend for life.

Just like people, dogs are social creatures. Some dogs can adapt better to other dogs, cats or whatever other creature then others. There are dogs that can even dislike the other sex of their own breed. Taking in to account that dogs are social animals it’s strange that some have difficulties while socializing.

Dog owners often have other dogs and pets visiting or living with them. To make sure all animals live peacefully together is not something that happens on its own. When on top of that your neighbours’ dog visits your premises every now and again and the ocasional cat wandering through the garden, you better be prepared.

You should start the process of socializing your dog as early as possible. Like children, puppies are much more open to accept strangers. They don?t distinguish yet between friend and foe and everything is a new experience to be explored rather than feared or chased.

Your vet will tell you when you can start socializing your puppy (usually at 13-15 weeks of age). Let him meet as many other dogs, animals and people as possible. Also explore his sensitive zones like the ears, paws and eyes regularly. This way you get a well behaved dog, not only when meeting other dogs, but also when going to the vet or when you receive human friends at home.

Dogs by nature explore with their noses. When you first let him meet other animals make sure that the other animals has been properly socialized to avoid violence. But by all means, let your puppy do all the sniffing he wants, because that will make him a better dog.

If one of the dogs wants to leap on or bite the other dog, you should let it go until it gets violent. It’s normal dog behavior when they ?fight? which often includes biting lightly each others legs and necks. Stay close and be prepared to interfere, if necessary. You might want to take a pair of leather gloves with you just in case.

If they keep on barking all the time, distract them with a treat or a toy. If your dog doesn’t stop pulling or barking after several attempts to correct him, just try another day. What works will vary widely and depends on the individual dog and some dogs will need more time to tolerate others. You’ll discover what’s more and less effective as you observe his behavior over time.

If you have a (adult) dog that comes from a rescue shelter and you don’t know his past you might need more time to teach him proper dog behavior. Many of these type of dogs have had bad experiences in the past and it might take them some more time to trust other dogs and humans again. They might be violent or shy, but whatever the way they react, bear in mind that many of these dogs turn in to wonderfully adapted animals with a little bit of love from their owners.

Start early, expose for short intervals followed by longer ones, repeat as often as you can. All the time you should be in control of the situation, both physically and mentally.

How to House Train a Dog

When you introduce a dog to your house, especially if it’s an older dog, you may well find that you need to re-train it on a few of the fundaments and house rules. Crate training is one process that works particularly well to house train dogs and it also minimizes the number of accidents that occur.

Use of the cage (or crate) would be a great way to teach your dog that is older and it works particularly well for people who are extremely busy with work and other activities, or just plain lazy. Training older dogs to take to the cage is an easy process that can be accomplished quickly and efficiently without driving you completely crazy.

People say that old dogs can’t learn new tricks, let me assure you that house training older dogs is very achievable. It may take slightly longer than house training puppies by consistence and persistence will pay off. A very deliberate training method should be followed, to get best results, avoid deviating from this process.

When you first start working with your dog, you will need to set a time that you will definitely be available and keep that time, consistency is very important to your dog’s successful training. It may actually be best to start his training earlier in the day, so you may want to start before going off to work in the morning. You will also want to have time during the night for the training as well to ensure that your dog gets off to bed in the cage in the night time.

You will need to take your dog outdoors soon after getting up in the morning, you should accompany him outdoors and bring him back indoors, keep an eye on his behavior. You must also start his commands outdoors, by telling him to go to the bathroom, using one or two words that you will use regularly so that he or she can learn that this word means that it is time to go to the bathroom. When he has accomplished your command then you will want to gently, without making too much of a fuss, praise your dog for their efforts. They will learn that this is a good thing to do and will work that much harder to please you.

Make sure that you are always firm and consistent with all your commands when house training your dog. You also need to make sure that your dog understands that you are the leader, this will make your dog take you much more seriously.

A Guide To Owning A Terrier Dog

Terriers are a very loving and energetic breed that demand a great deal of attention from their family members. They love to make noise and most enjoy being a typical “lap dog.” Terrier training can be a bit difficult if you aren’t persistent, therefore you’ll need to be prepared to be firm and corrective with your terrier pup. If your interest is in breeding terriers, you should do plenty of research and speak to a vet to ensure that you are prepared for the responsibility. This article lists a few of the responsibilities you can expect when raising a terrier.

In order to be a great dog owner, you need to carefully pay attention to your relationship. Caring for the dog won’t be hard as long as you know your responsibilities of caring for them. That means bathing, taking them to the vet and feeding them. Some have different coat styles, and require more grooming than others. Training may be more difficult with some. For instance, Boston terrier training may be a bit more difficult than other terriers as they can tend to be hard to housebreak. The feeding for your dogs can vary depending on what type of breed you have. With the terrier breeds, you have both small and large dogs that need different amounts of servings of foods.

The type of food you feed your terrier is very important. If you’re able to, find out from the dog’s previous owner what type of food they were feeding him. If you can help it, try to keep the dog on the same brand of food, as this can prevent a possible upset stomach, diarrhea, etc. If you can’t find out what food the dog was previously eating, just do your bed to sort through various brands, taking care to read the nutrition label.

Owning a terrier is a large responsibility and when you get him as a puppy, you will need to make sure he gets all of the required vaccinations. The shots are to help protect your pet against certain dog health problems. The pet needs to have their check up throughout the year in order to be healthy and be the dog you want.

Caring for a terrier isn’t altogether different than caring for a dog of any other breed, a little training effort and a lot of love go a long way. To purchase a terrier, you can find breeder listings in your newspaper or local pet shop. However, if you wish to help a pet who has been abandoned, or whose owners are unable to care for him any longer, you can look into rescue and shelter organizations in your area. You can also do an Internet search, such as “Boston terrier adoption” which will display the sites to hundreds of adoption agencies that specialize in that particular breed of dog.

This method stops your dog’s mistaken thinking. It only needs a few moments to permanently cancel or delete a behavior. Correcting it takes the entire lifetime of your dog.So you can make your choice to solve behavior problems permanently in a few moments, or get the satisfaction of correcting your dogs behavior problems each time they occur, permanently.

When you run out of energy on whining, nagging, and arguing, just go back to the beginning and read this manual again, and change your view. Change is difficult but worthwhile.

As you prepare to leave after having shown him the meaning of your request, make a sound just before he reaches the doorway. As always, instantly praise him and continue to exit yourself, and if he continues to try to exit, create the sound just behind him, and praise again. If he leaves against your command, simply repeat the original command “go in the other room good boy”. He will treat this as a new command.

Pay attention to the last time sound was used, and try to make sure that in the next instance, the sound comes from the appropriate source, i.e. if your dog went into the “other room” without sound, perhaps strictly as a coincidence, then, that time would require you to make the sound with your next request.

So First request, “go in the other room, “; second request; “go in the other ROOM good boy”; third request “go in the other room, good boy”. Here’s the rest of the secret: The sequence of events never starts over again, but always continues from the last instance in which the sound was used. It is critical to remember the last occasion in which your dog was given a command.

Let’s say, he’s out in the back. Call him in. Should he fail to respond, reach for the can, and repeat your request with one hard shake to create sound. Naturally, your dog will respond on this occasion. So next time that he is out in the yard, -even if it’s the next day, and he does not comply, remember when it was you last needed to re-enforce the command, using sound.

So you might stop for a moment to think, “gee, wasn’t it just last night, that I asked him to come inside, and failing that, needed to create the sound on my second request for him to come in?” Did the sound come from my hand, or did the can need to be tossed beyond him. Follow through thinking this out, and make the right decision. If you can’t remember the last instance, that’s O.K.

Do your best, and set an appointment to do the Family Pack Leadership exercise when you plan to re-install the reflex to “come”. It’ll take about fiver or ten minutes.
